ITINERARY:
Day 1 Depart for DelhiDay 2 DelhiWe will be
met on arrival in Delhi and transferred to our hotel for the night. A
sightseeing tour of the city is scheduled for the afternoon.
Day
3 Delhi - LehWe will fly to Leh this morning. On arrival, we will
check into our hotel for three nights. Rest of the day is free to
acclimatize.
Day 4 Leh The morning is at leisure. In
the afternoon we will visit Leh, stroll through the town followed by a visit
to a Gompa. We will return to our hotel for dinner.
Day 5 Leh
We will walk around Leh and neighbouring villages to continue
acclimatization.
Day 6 Leh - ZinchenWe will drive to
Spituk this morning and trek to Zinchen (3,200 metres). Zinchen is a tiny
village consisting of just 4 to 5 houses. We will stay in the camps
overnight.
Day
7 Zinchen - RumbakThis morning we will trek from Zinchen to Rumbak
(3,900 metres; 5-6 hours) looking for Golden Eagle's nest on the way. On
reaching Rumbak, we will see the snow-capped peaks of Stok Mountains. During
summers, one can see the fields of barley, potatoes and other green
vegetables that are grown by the local villagers. We will stay in the camp
overnight.
Day 8 Rumbak - ChortenchenWe will do a
stiff climb today to Stok La (3 hours) to see the upper Indus Valley and
Stok Gorge with beautiful rock formations. We will climb down to Khilchay
(summer pasture of Stok Village) continuing to Chortenchan (4,084 metres).
If we are lucky enough, we can see a snow leopard here. We will camp here
for the night.
Day 9 Chortenchen - Stok KangriWe will
trek to Stok Kangri base camp today (4,600 metres). Our accommodation is
arranged in camp.
Day 10 Stok KangriThe day is to rest
and explore the surrounding valley, which offers panoramic views of the
peaks. There would be excellent opportunities to watch a variety of birds
and see animals. Overnight at the base camp.
Day 11 Stok Kangri
- LadakhWe will trek today from Stok Kangri to Stok (3,484 metres;
5-6 hours) driving on to Ladakh from there. Time permitting we will visit
the Stok Palace, which also houses a fascinating museum.
Day
12 LadakhToday we will have a full day to see the major monasteries
of Ladakh - Shey, Thiksey and Hemis.
Day 13 Ladakh - DelhiWe
will fly back to Delhi this morning where we will be met on arrival and
transferred to our hotel for overnight stay. Rest of the day is free for
independent activities, sightseeing or shopping.
Day 14 Delhi -
Onward DestinationWe will transfer to the airport in time to
connect the flight for our onward destination.
The day is at leisure. We
will transfer to the international airport late in the evening to connect
our flight to onward destination.
