Location: It is located in in Medak
and Nizamabad districts.
Description:
It
has an undulating terrain with low hills and small water pools. It is
located at a distance of 120 km. from Hyderabad. Pocharam wildlife sanctuary
is named after the famous Pocharam Lake. The Nizam of Hyderabad state,
declared the area as wildlife sanctuary in 1952 because of its richness in
floral and faunal composition. It covers the forest areas of Medak and
Nizamabad districts and extends over an area of 130 sq.kms.
Visiting
Season: November to January is the best time to visit the
park though it is open throughout the year.

By Air: Nearest Airport is at Hyderabad(120 kms).
By Rail: Nearest railway station is at Hyderabad(120 km.)
By
Road: Pocharam wild life sanctuary is 120 kms from Hyderabad by road. It
is well connected by state buses.
Accommodation
Inspection Bungalow at Pocharam & Medak.
Temperature:
The area is quite hot durin the summer and not very cold during the
winter with a max/min of 15 to 40o C.
Wildlife
Flora: The floral composition consists of Teak, Nallamaddi,
Garuga, Tirman, Satin, Mohwa, Chirongii, Chennangi, Abnus etc.
Mammals:
The main faunal species are Leopard, Jungle Cat, Wolf, Jackal, Sloth
Bear, Sambar, Nilgai, Chinkara, Chital, Four Horned Antilope. etc.
Birds:
There are more than 100 species of birds in Pocharam including Crested
Serpant Eagle, Ashy Crowned Finch Lark, Indian Roller, Kingfishers, White
bellied Woodpecker etc. So bird watchers can look forward to a busy and
happy time.
